About Serena Alexander
Serena began her meditation journey in her twenties, attending a 10-day silent insight meditation retreat (Vipassana) in Portugal. The challenges and joys of that experience left a lasting impression, and she continued to practise insight meditation for several years afterwards.
She later spent sixteen years learning and practising within a Tibetan Buddhist tradition dedicated to world peace, studying the Mahayana teachings on compassion and wisdom. Serena continues to develop her Buddhist practice in small group settings and retreats, while increasingly exploring mindfulness meditation with a focus on embodied practices, including mindful movement, Kum Nye, and Rhythmic Healing.
Serena has completed an in-depth two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program (MMTCP), taught by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, two internationally recognised leaders in mindfulness teaching. She now shares her mindfulness work through essays, guided meditations, and other resources on Substack, alongside free resources available here on the website.
Before her mindfulness work, Serena trained as a journalist with the BBC, working as a radio and TV news presenter and reporter. She anchored the evening news programme at Yorkshire TV alongside the late Richard Whiteley, and co-hosted a TV game show with Carol Vorderman.
Serena is also a classically trained musician and singer-songwriter, bringing creativity and a sense of rhythm into her teaching and practice.
She lives in Dumfries and Galloway with her husband and dog, enjoying long walks, forest contemplations, and the peace of the sea.
