About Serena Alexander
Serena began her meditation journey in her twenties when she attended a 10 day silent insight meditation retreat (also known as Vipassana), in Portugal. The challenges and joys of that retreat made a lasting impression, and Serena continued to practise insight mediation for a number of years afterwards.
She later spent sixteen years learning and practising within a Tibetan Buddhist tradition and community dedicated to world peace, where she studied the Mahayana teachings on compassion and wisdom.
Serena now continues to develop her Buddhist practise and training within small group settings and retreats, and, more recently, has been exploring mindfulness meditation with a particular focus on embodied practises, such as mindful movement, Kum Nye and Rhythmic Healing.
Serena is now coming to the end of an in depth two year mindfulness teacher training programme taught by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, two world renowned leaders in the field of mindfulness teaching. As such, she is currently running courses in her capacity as a trainee teacher before she is due to qualify early in 2025.
Serena is also a BBC trained journalist, having spent a number of years as a radio and TV news presenter/reporter. Whilst working at Yorkshire TV, Serena anchored the evening news programme presenting alongside the late Richard Whiteley. She also co-hosted a TV game show with Carol Vorderman.
Serena is also a classically trained musician, and singer/songwriter.
She currently lives in Dumfries and Galloway with her husband and two dogs, where she loves walking and contemplating in the forests and by the sea.
